MDF

as a material for the production of interior doors, it is widely used by manufacturers and appreciated by customers. MDF doors are a striking example of a favorable price-quality ratio, which is confirmed by photos and customer reviews. How to choose a high-quality MDF door and what it is, let’s try to figure it out together.

Main characteristics of MDF:

MDF is an abbreviation of the English words Medium Density Fiberboard and literally translates as “finely dispersed fraction”. In other words, it is a wood fiber board made from wood waste by pressing. Lignin, a natural polymer, as well as various resins with the addition of melamine, are used as auxiliary materials for gluing in the production of MDF.

MDF is a fairly durable material with high mechanical characteristics. Ease of processing makes it possible to manufacture doors of any configuration.
The use of MDF in the production of doors allows you to preserve natural tree stands and reduce the cost of finished products. MDF doors:
decorative;
do not dry out over time and do not deform;
are lightweight and inexpensive.

Types of decorative MDF coating
Decorative coating of MDF doors improves not only their appearance, but also their mechanical properties:
resistance to mechanical impacts;
moisture and thermal conductivity;
reduces the negative impact of ultraviolet radiation.
The most common types of coatings are:

Lamination:

an artificial material is glued over the canvas – laminate, which has high mechanical characteristics. Laminate consists of a paper layer and a protective film. It can be made in a wide range of colors with the application of a textured pattern under the tree.

Veneering:

finishing the canvas with veneer from natural wood or eco-veneer. Natural veneer is made by cutting thin plates from valuable wood species. It preserves the natural pattern of the wood and is an excellent alternative to expensive solid wood. The Fine Line technology allows for the production of veneer from so-called “commercial” wood by peeling and subsequent gluing of sheets.

PVC film coating:

Doors with such a coating are quite resistant to mechanical damage and moisture. Technologies allow for the production of PVC film in various colors and the application of a decorative pattern.
Painting is the simplest and most affordable way to decorate doors. Modern paint and varnish coatings allow you to make the door matte or glossy, without limiting the color scheme.
Important to know! Varnish is applied over any door coating. It gives a finished look to the door leaf and also protects the decorative layer from damage.
Advantages and disadvantages:

The popularity of MDF doors among buyers is justified by a number of advantages they have:

  • The lightness of the door structures allows them to be installed in any openings, be it a plasterboard partition or a solid brick wall.
  • Installation of a lightweight door is much easier than a heavy one made of solid wood.
  • MDF sheets are quite durable and can withstand mechanical impacts.
  • MDF doors can withstand even point impacts.
  • MDF doors are resistant to moisture and high temperatures.
  • Even thin MDF doors have fairly high sound and heat insulation values. Having closed behind such doors, you can retire to the room and nothing will bother you.
  • MDF door leaf does not deform, does not dry out. It does not rot and is resistant to fungal attack. All these qualities make MDF doors durable.
    The cost of MDF doors is much lower than that of solid wood. At the same time, the price-quality ratio is always optimal.
